From the author: I was recently asked why I wrote this book. Here is my response:
“I wrote Enlil’s Adventures: Clay Tablets & Mari spies, book 3 of the Ancient Elements series, to engross 10 to 14-olds in a fun, fast-paced adventure that places them in the historical setting of ancient Babylon. Ancient Mesopotamia is a social studies curriculum strand for this age group in many states. This series makes an ancient subject come alive. As readers get wrapped up with the story’s characters finding a spy’s tablet, decoding it, and then leaving their own deceptive message, I hope to instill within students a love for using their wits to solve the mysteries of things they don’t understand.”

- I Loved the suspense throughout "Enlil’sAdventures: ClayTablets & Mari Spies." The characters with their family interactions made me feel I was a part of this adventure. It’s a wonderful story for ages nine and up! Susan PeersMiddle School Teacher, California
- When Enlil—baker and wannabe warrior—discovers a mysterious clay tablet, he becomes entangled in a political plot that could endanger the lives of all the people he loves. It’s up to him and his friend Deebee to outfox a devious spy without being discovered. Or worse ... killed! Set during the time when Hammurabi planned to invade Mari, Dr. Sontag weaves real events and relatable characters into a gem of a historical fiction adventure. If you love mystery, danger, action, and suspense, don’t miss "Enlil’s Adventures: Clay Tablets & Mari Spies." Lori Z. ScottElementary School Teacher, Texas
- "Enlil’s Adventures: Clay Tablets & Mari Spies" is appropriate for young readers through "advanced age" (I’m 69.) I found the story believable, interesting, and timely. I especially loved a certain surprise for Enlil as he gets to know his cohort and fellow "spy." I also liked how he treats a younger boy that needed help with taking care of his family. Enlil has great respect for all the characters in the story, even the protagonist—which included a fear factor. I was captivated every moment! ~Laura Pool, former Homeschooling MomLaura PoolFormer Homeschooling Mom
